So, what is a gentleman to do?
I have a miss manners type question for you all. If I know I will be in a meeting for more than an hour, I get to the room early. About five minutes, and set up camp with water, coffee, and a good seat. Inevitably, the room will be over booked. When ladies show up late, I feel obligated to offer my seat to them… as a gentleman should.
However, if they were on time, they would have gotten a seat. Also, I showed up early for this seat. Am I doomed to stand for the rest of my life? I mean, if someone is pregnant, old, or crippled… I will offer my seat in a second. However, if a lady is just late. I figure she should have to stand. I am in this moral quandry almost daily, and would really like your feedback.
I guess this also touches at the heart of chivalry vs equality. I think, for the most part, we can accomodate both… but not in this particular situation.
