Friday Fives

1. How long can you hold your breath?

well, outside of swimming… that hadn’t ever come up. Strangely, though, I have a stop watch nearby… so I tested. After three tests (and three beers), my best time was 40 seconds. I know, it doesn’t seem like much. I swear, 40 seconds was tough. You try it.

2. How long do you wait to cut your hair?

never more than a few days. I cut it myself with clippers, and have for about 15 years. I clip it twice a week, and it takes me just a couple of minutes. I haven’t paid for a haircut since about 1994-ish.

3. How long do you normally wait at the grocery?

Dunno, same as you I reckon. I never go for much, so I get to use those self check out kiosk thingies. Also, we (the wife and I) are using our own canvas bags now when we go to stores. The point being, we take the groceries home in those instead of the plastic bags. It seems pretentious and weird, but we are just doing our tiny part to unemploy the pushy plastic bag lobby.

4. How long can you sing a song without getting the lyrics wrong?

well, that is a loaded question. see, I don’t sing because I can’t. However, I play a lot of guitar. When we camp (which is very often in the summer), we all drink a lot and I play guitar all night by the campfire. This necessates me singing. Being a serious rock and roll expert, I don’t ever forget lyrics. Except for camping, see, because we have been drinking copiously all night.

Point being, I guess you have to go camping with us to find out. I am working on a whole new set for next summer. There are about probably 30 songs I can knock out at any given time on the acoustic. I also keep a cheat sheet book of chords which gives me about another 30 or so to call upon. Most of them, as suspected, are Wham covers.

5. How long is the best relationship you’ve been in?

well, the obvious one is my wonderful wife. We have been together for 12 years, so that is pretty great. However, I also have a great relationship with my work. I have been with the same company for well over ten years. For a guy who is 35, that is pretty impressive. I was repairing lawn mowers when you were a twinkle in your daddy’s eye. Also, I should give some credit to my cat. The Miles and I have been together for 13 or 14.
