Friday Fives – colorblind edition

What is your favorite color?

Well, it used to be burgundy, and now it forest green. I love them both, and together. The burgundy/maroon thing got out of control. It one point, my bi ass truck was that color, as was my guitar, as was my jacket and my Carhartt hat. On top of that, I was likely wearing oxblood doc martens.  Now my truck is green, but everything else is a bit better balanced. Of course I love black as well, as it just goes with everything.

Here is something silly, and possibly related… the wifey’s new car is maroon. Something in closing on this issue – I hate the color red. Isn’t that weird? It’s like saying I hate Kenny Loggins**, but Loggins/Messina*** are the bomb!

If you could switch places with someone else for a day, who would that person be?

The President. Would love to know what a day in the life is like.  Oooh, wait… be a rock star the day of a gig.  Dave Grohl.  Not just because he is a rock star, but because he seems to get life.  He is always joyful and curious and appreciative.  Plus, he has rad hair and beard, and rocks.  I could SO live vicariously through him.

What is your very first memory?

Waking up in a cabin, we were camping somewhere. It was all foresty out, I am maybe 5 years old? It wasn’t our cabin, but some friends… no idea who. As I walked out and rubbed the sleep from my eyes, folks were sitting out in the grass among the pine trees just enjoying themselves on a perfect sunny day. John Denver’s ‘Country Road’ was playing. It was, and still remains, my happy place. It’s why I moved to Colorado. Not for the John Denver, but for the woods.

If you had three wishes, what would they be?

Not interesting enough question. To passe. Ok, invisibility, money, and a really nice PRS. Like… this one. Wait, just gimme a $10,000 gift card to Guitar Center.

Have you ever wanted a pony for your birthday? If not, what has been the craziest thing you’ve ever wanted for a birthday/other celebration present?

I have two ponies, thank you. I can’t think of anything great or interesting… usual stuff. Looking back, I remember really wanting (and luckily getting) waterbed when I was a kid. Remember those? What happened to them? They were AWESOME.

Oh… wait… this is kinda related.  It wasn’t what I wanted, but I got a puppy for my birthday once.  Y’all remember Max, right?  He was a surprise birthday present from the wifey.  This was before she a wifey… and was my girlfriend.  Well, once your gal gives you a Max… you know you got the right gal!

*** also understandable, but to a lesser degree

Friday Fives

1. What is the  first song you remember hearing?

West Virginia, Mountain Mama… that John Denver song.  Don’t remember where I was, but I was a kid and we were somewhere in the woods.  It seemed I was living that song, and it was a transcendent moment.  I think it is a moment I try to relive every day living here in beautiful and amazing Colorado.

2. What is the first movie you remember seeing?

Star Wars, vaguely.  Movies haven’t really shaped me like books and music have.  I mean, a few have rocked me to the foundation:  Harold and Maude, and Forrest Gump to name a couple.

3. What is the first book you remember reading?

five were missing, or mouse on a motorcycle.  Though it has been 30 years, I have found those books as an adult and am super proud to own them.  A couple of years ago, when I finally found a copy of ‘Five were Missing‘ i read it in the tub in an hour or two.  It did not age well.  It was a revolutionary piece of literary awesomeness… at the time.  Today, it reads as something shit out in 90 minutes for 10 year olds.

4. When did you first realize the world around you?

I remember feeling profoundly different and seperated from the world at a young age.  Not alienated, mind you.  I had an awesome and fun and perfect childhood.  I just remember wondering why i thought so different from everyone.  In retrospect, I turned out mostly normal.  So, maybe everyone has those thoughts.  I don’t know, I was afraid to talk about it.   Plus, I think I may have saw a space ship when I was really young.  Problem is, I can’t be sure if it was an actual occurance or maybe a show I saw.   true story.  You are the first person I have EVER told that to.   So, don’t tell anyone.

5.  How should Carl Kipper  celebrate his AIG rewards?

Carl was a hard worker.  Carl bust his ass every single day why you sat in your cubile and played solitare.  Carl is the reason any of us still have a job.  So, let’s just quit the blame game and put his stapler in jello again.
